Children’s Code compliance
TaleBuzzer is built for children. The UK Age Appropriate Design Code is not a checkbox for us — it is the design brief. Every product decision starts with: is this in the best interest of the child?
What is the Children’s Code
The UK Age Appropriate Design Code sets 15 standards for online services likely to be accessed by children under 18. TaleBuzzer applies all 15 standards in full.
How we meet the 15 standards
Our compliance position against each standard:
- Best interests of the child — Every feature decision is assessed against child wellbeing. Reading habit formation, not engagement maximisation, is our North Star metric.
- Data protection impact assessments — A DPIA has been completed for all processing activities involving child data.
- Age appropriate application — Content is calibrated to the child’s age range, entered by the parent at profile creation.
- Transparency — Privacy information is written in plain language and available to both parents and children.
- Detrimental use of data — We do not use child data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose detrimental to their wellbeing.
- Policies and community standards — Our terms of use and acceptable use policy are clear and enforced.
- Default settings — All privacy settings default to the most protective option. Notifications default to off.
- Data minimisation — We collect only the data necessary to generate the child’s story. No email addresses for children. No location data.
- Data sharing — Child data is never shared with third parties for their own purposes.
- Geolocation — We do not collect geolocation data at any point.
- Parental controls — Parents control all account settings. Children access only a PIN-gated reading environment.
- Profiling — We do not profile children for advertising or behavioural targeting.
- Nudge techniques — We do not use dark patterns. Upgrade prompts are clear, honest, and non-manipulative.
- Connected toys and devices — Not applicable. TaleBuzzer is a web application only.
- Online tools — Parents have clear tools to manage, review, and delete child data at any time.
